Every time I visit his city I’m sure to schedule a lunch or dinner with him. His natural warmth and vigor are infectious, and our conversations always range far beyond wine. His passion has been to acquire the greatest wines with the best possible provenance. To say he succeeded would be a tremendous understatement. This selection is a modest slice of his vast collection. All wines were carefully acquired from HDH and other trusted sources. The selection of Bordeaux is spectacular, with many of the wines acquired as futures or late releases direct from the châteaux, and most are in original wood. It features a veritable roll call of the greatest wines produced over the last 50 years: Palmer 1961, Pétrus 1971, Cheval-Blanc 1982, Latour 1982, Haut-Brion 1989, and Pétrus 1990 to name a few. Rivaling the Bordeaux are sublime wines from DRC including an exceedingly rare jeroboam of the spectacular Romanée-Conti 1999 and a magnum of Romanée-Conti 2014. All wines have been removed from highly customized home storage that maintains ideal temperature and humidity. These amazing wines come from one of the most important private cellars in America. The owner has generously shared so many great bottles with me, and I urge you to bid with great confi dence. -Michael Davis CHATEAU CHEVAL BLANC Château Cheval Blanc 1982 St-Emilion, 1er grand cru classé (A) Lot 1373: Seven base neck, fi ve top shoulder; Lot 1374: Two base neck, ten top shoulder; twelve labels loose; Lot 1375: Base neck; label creased and heavily wine stained; capsule slightly torn; cork slightly raised “...sumptuous, sensual...sweet raspberries, orange rind, dried fl owers, cedar box, black truffl es, vine smoke and menthol...melting tannins and a long, expansive fi nish...” (99 points) William Kelley, WA #264, Dec 2022 (Lot 1373: See photo opposite page) 1373 12 bottles (owc) per lot $8000–12000 1374 12 bottles (owc) per lot $8000–12000 1375 1 imperial (6L) per lot $9000–14000 Château Cheval Blanc 1990 St-Emilion, 1er grand cru classé (A) Eight base neck, three top shoulder “...fl irts with perfection, this perhaps the best bottle that I have drunk...very complex and refi ned, perfectly poised, layers of graphite-infused black fruit... at the very peak of its powers...” (99 points) Neal Martin, Vinous.com, Dec 2025 1376 12 bottles (owc) per lot $9000–14000 Château Cheval Blanc 1998 St-Emilion, 1er grand cru classé (A) Five capsules creased “...scents of exotic spices, incense, dried roses, cigar box and licorice...fi lls the mouth with rich, plushly textured fruit and then POW—it hits the mid- palate...” (100 points) Lisa Perrotti-Brown, WA, May 2018 1377 12 bottles (owc) per lot $7500–11000 Château Cheval Blanc 2000 St-Emilion, 1er grand cru classé (A) “...nose of menthol, melted licorice, boysenberry, blueberry, and cassis... compelling purity, a layered texture, and sweet tannin...hints of coff ee and earth...” (99 points) Robert Parker, WA #189, June 2010 1378 12 bottles (owc) per lot $8000–12000 Château Cheval Blanc 2005 St-Emilion, 1er grand cru classé (A) “...sublime on the palate, where the interplay of Merlot and Cabernet Franc proves to be captivating...makes a deep impression because of its overall fi nesse and nuance...” (100 points) AG, Vinous.com, Nov 2015 1379 12 bottles (owc) per lot $7500–11000 Château Cheval Blanc 2009 St-Emilion, 1er grand cru classé (A) “...notions of baked blueberries, blackberry compote and crème de cassis with suggestions of chocolate mint, new leather and cloves plus a waft of candied violets...” (100 points) Lisa Perrotti-Brown, WA, Mar 2019 1380 12 bottles (2 owc) per lot $6000–9000 1381 12 bottles (2 owc) per lot $6000–9000 CHATEAU HAUT-BRION Château Haut-Brion 1989 Pessac-Léognan, 1er cru classé “...unquestionably the best I have encountered in recent years...stunning defi nition, a mixture of shimmering black fruit, crushed stone, black true and graphite...” (100 points) Neal Martin, Vinous.com, July 2024 1382 12 bottles (owc) per lot $24000–35000 Château Haut-Brion 1998 Pessac-Léognan, 1er cru classé “...fl amboyant red and black fruits, followed by a train of cassis, blueberry pie and chocolate box notions” (99 points) Lisa Perrotti-Brown, WA, May 2018 1383 12 bottles (owc) per lot $4500–6500 Château Haut-Brion 2000 Pessac-Léognan, 1er cru classé “...nose is simply breathtaking...ebullient red berry fruit, roasted herbs, gravel, terracotta tiles on a warm summer’s day...wave after wave of intoxi- cating scents...” (99 points) Neal Martin, WA, July 2016 1384 12 bottles (owc) per lot $7000–10000 Château Haut-Brion 2005 Pessac-Léognan, 1er cru classé “...Remarkably vivid and nuanced...a compelling mélange of dark fl avors laced with the savory/mineral notes that are so typical of Haut-Brion... dense, explosive fi nish...” (100 points) AG, Vinous.com, Nov 2015 1385 12 bottles (owc) per lot $9000–14000 Château Haut-Brion 2009 Pessac-Léognan, 1er cru classé “...warm blackberries, plum preserves, mulberries and blackcurrant cor- dial with touches of star anise, mocha and damp soil...mouth-coating black fruit...” (100 points) Lisa Perrotti-Brown, WA, Mar 2019 1386 12 bottles (owc) per lot $6000–9000 1387 12 bottles (owc) per lot $6000–9000 CHATEAU LATOUR Château Latour 1982 Pauillac, 1er cru classé Two base neck, nine top shoulder, one high shoulder; twelve labels slightly scuff ed; twelve capsules slightly corroded “...utter class, regal and poised, with brilliant structure...crystalline, mineral- driven fi nish.
