Hart Davis Hart Auction Co. [email protected] www.hdhauctions.com tel: 312.482.9996 Auction 2511 5 It goes without saying that we at Hart Davis Hart have had the pleasure of selling the fi nest wine in the entire world from the most important cellars, boasting unimpeachable provenance. Still, the Bowen Collection stands apart. The selection of wines from Burgundy, California, Rhône, Piedmont and Champagne in this off ering enters the realm of the all-time greatest cellars we have encountered and will humble even the most seasoned collector. The Bowen Collection hails from a longtime collector and friend of HDH, who has consigned multiple times over the course of more than fi fteen years. Beginning in the 1990s this New England gentleman acquired wines from reputable merchants and auction houses, avidly tasting, learning and applying the utmost scrutiny to his purchases. The Bowen Collection is held in a state-of-the-art refrigerated cellar at 48 to 50°F with 78 to 82% humidity. A measured and intellectually curious connoisseur, The Bowen Collector has homed in on the producers at the top of their games throughout the twentieth and twenty-fi rst centuries, resulting in a deep but very focused cellar. Favorite producers well-represented here include the fi rst growths and premier right bank Châteaux such as Cheval Blanc and Pétrus; d'Yquem; Mugnier, Roumier, Bachelet, Dujac, Mugneret-Gibourg, DRC and Ramonet; Guigal, Chave, Chapoutier and Rayas; Bartolo Mascarello and Giacomo Conterno; Caymus, Heitz, Joseph Phelps and Ridge; and Penfolds. Of the nearly 7,000 bottles in this selection, more than half hail from Burgundy. 525 of those are made by Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier. 370 more are from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, including a complete vertical of La Tâche 2011-2021. The range of Charmes-Chambertin, Vieilles-Vignes, Denis Bachelet spans 1985-2017. Nearly a century of Château Cheval Blanc is available, as are ten vintages of Château Pétrus. The spectacular 1961 vintage in Bordeaux can be found from 19 diff erent châteaux. Moving away from sweeping statements, the singular highlights are stunning: three bottles of 1947 Château Cheval Blanc; six bottles of 1961 Château Latour à Pomerol, a dozen 1961 Château Palmer. Eight bottles of 1969 Chambertin, Armand Rousseau; DRC Richebourg from 1962, 1966 and 1971; 1953 and 1962 La Romanée, Maison Leroy; six bottles of 1991 Clos Saint-Denis, Vieilles Vignes, Domaine Ponsot.
