Ambassador Weiser is well known for his generosity — he is one of the two largest donors of all time to the University of Michigan and Michigan Medicine — and the proceeds for this selection will benefi t the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Aside from his love and support for the University of Michigan, one of Ambassador Weiser’s great passions in life is wine. His appreciation for wine was instilled by his grandfather, and after fi nding early success Ron began to focus on collecting. Ambassador Weiser was thoughtful and deliberate in his purchases, enjoying close relationships with Serena Sutcliff e and Michael Broadbent and consulting with them on provenance and conditions before buying from London wine auctions in the 1990s. Ron is a member of Bacchus and has passed on his love of wine to his son. Champagne and Bordeaux are the featured regions in this selection, with many large formats from both to enjoy. Rosé Champagne is a personal favorite of Ambassador Weiser, and included are magnums of Dom Pérignon Rosé Vintage 1985, 1995 and 1996 as well as Louis Roederer, Cristal Rosé from many vintages. Bordeaux is off ered here almost exclusively in large format, beginning with magnums of Château Pichon-Longueville, Comtesse de Lalande from the excellent 1945 and 1947 vintages and touching on every heralded year from the second half of the 19th century. We would be remiss if we didn’t point out Penfolds Grange from the 1960s and 1970s, historic bottlings from California and more large formats of Rhône, Burgundy and d’Yquem. Conditions are superb throughout, and the proceeds go to an excellent cause — bid with confi dence and enthusiasm!
